A trader was arrested when he tried to sell Dubai Police officers 32,280 Tramadol tablets for Dh5,000, a court heard.
An anti-narcotics police corporal said in the prosecution investigation they received a tip-off that the trader, a 50-year-old Pakistani national identified as M.H., possessed some Tramadol pills, which he would sell for a Dh5,000 down payment. The remaining amount was to be wired to him in Pakistan.
“We set International City as the place for the pick-up of the drugs. We got a search and arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution,” the policeman said.
On July 10, last year, at about 12pm, the undercover corporal approached M.H. as a potential buyer of the pills. Other officers of the anti-narcotics department followed him from a distance. When M.H. confirmed that the corporal had Dh5,000, he called his compatriot accomplice, A.R, a 47-year-old driver. A.R. reached the spot and handed over a box and a plastic bag to M.H. and left.
After making sure that the box contained Tramadol pills, the policeman signalled to his team, who raided the vehicle the duo was travelling in and arrested M.H. “M.H. admitted in the General Department of Anti-Narcotics that the box contained 32,280 Tramadol pills. A.R. was apprehended shortly later from the same area.” Both have been charged in the Court of First Instance with possessing drugs for trafficking.
