Two persons died as their car crashed into a truck that had stopped in the middle of Al Khail Road after a minor accident around 5am on Thursday, confirmed Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Acting Director of the Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic.
The police had to use hydraulic cutters to remove the bodies stuck in the mangled car.
He said the driver of the truck stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road after it hit a saloon car, waiting for a police patrol to arrive to complete the accident report. A speeding motorist noticed the stationary truck late and his car rammed the back of the heavy vehicle. Both the motorist and his friend sitting in the front seat died of serious injuries.
Col Al Mazroui stressed motorists who get involved in minor accidents must move their vehicles to the roadside immediately as they wait for the police. “In this case, the truck driver should have taken the vehicle to the side. Motorists driving at the maximum speed limit would not expect a stationary vehicle in the middle of the road.”
