A 26-year-old Emirati man has unlawfully obtained a UAE driving licence after he submitted a forged driving licence at the Roads and Transport Authority, a court heard. The accused had the driving licence issued by an unaware RTA employee, after he submitted a driving licence claimed to be issued from Saudi Arabia.
According to public prosecution records, the defendant presented a licence which he falsely claimed to be issued by the Saudi Ministry of Interior. He had it replaced with a UAE driving licence, issued by an unaware employee. He was charged with forgery in the Court of First Instance.
A legal researcher with RTA said that the accused and another man, at large, approached the authority to get driving licences. "They both showed driving licences claiming to be issued from Saudi Arabia and wanted to have them replaced with UAE licences. Driving licences were issued to both of them after replacing the licences they had.
"Later, we informed the Saudi authorities that the driving licences were replaced with ones issued from Dubai. We received a reply from the Ministry of Exterior there that the two defendants had no such licences and that the documents they presented were forged. We complained against the defendants at the police station in Al Qusais," the legal researcher told the prosecutor
The reply from the Saudi authorities and the forged licences were used as part of the case file by the Dubai public prosecution. The case dates back to last year.
