Two more stolen cars recovered

The Dubai Police have recovered two luxurious cars, which were stolen and smuggled out by a gang to a foreign country. Brig. Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at the Dubai Police, said that the two cars, which cost about Dh600,000, are part of 56 cars stolen by the gang, including 20 from Dubai and 36 from a neighbouring emirate.

The gang comprising two traders and two visitors of Asian nationalities were arrested earlier, allegedly for stealing high-end cars and smuggling them out of the country. The gang managed to steal 12 cars last year and eight cars this year from Dubai alone.

Brig. Al Mansouri said that the police had recovered five four-wheel cars earlier, hidden in a container in Jebel Ali, kept ready for smuggling to Afghanistan. The Dubai Police are currently taking efforts to recover rest of the cars in coordination with the Interpol and police authorities of Iran, Afghanistan and other countries.The police received 12 complaints last year and eight complaints this year. Since the first complaint, the police formed a special team, but the criminals used various methods to avoid the police and also moved between emirates.

The police found two of the gang members, an Indian national and a Pakistani national, driving a recovery vehicle in Al Aweer used car market at 3am. They entered a sandy area where many luxurious cars were parked and broke the side window of a vehicle to open its door. The police took photos and video of their actions and then arrested them while they were putting the car into the recovery vehicle. During interrogation, they revealed information about the other two suspects, Afghan nationals.

The Indian national was working in a car-towing company and owned a recovery vehicle while the second accused, the Pakistan national helped him stealing the cars. The Afghan nationals financed the theft and smuggling operations, Al Mansouri said.
