A group of three men, who are Asian compatriots, are facing trial before the Criminal Court in Dubai on charges of stealing equipment from a mobile network tower.
Dubai public prosecution’s documents revealed that the incident had occurred on January 3, when a driver, 32, of a light vehicle and a technician, 24, along with another person stole equipment from a mobile network tower at Al Qusais in Dubai.

The trio went to the building that housed the mobile network tower, disconnected the electricity connection in a bid to steal cables and other equipment.
The incident occurred in the dead of night at 1 am, which was seen by an eyewitness, 49, who lived near the mobile network tower. However, initially, he mistook the thieves as maintenance workers, but later had doubts since the activity was carried out late at night.
On second thoughts, he physically inspected the gate of the mobile network tower, and soon realised that the trio had trespassed the property.
He found one of the accused on top of the tower, the second waiting below and the third sitting in a white car and waiting for his other two gang members.
The second accused accosted the eyewitness and asked him what he was doing there. The second accused lied to the eyewitness and said that he worked for the telecommunication company.
The eyewitness nailed the lies and the accused begged him not to lodge a complaint with the Dubai Police before they decamped from the spot with the loot.
However, the eyewitness had taken down the number of the white vehicle and called the Dubai Police after the trio had decamped.
The police swung into action in no time and identified the three accused and arrested them.
The trio had stolen equipment worth Dh2,000. Further legal proceedings against the accused are in progress.
