Sharjah Police is investigating the case of a 32-year-old Emirati national who received first degree burns after he drank petrol and set himself on fire.
Police said that they received a call at 9:30pm at the operation room of Al Madam police station, which dispatched a team of officers, who found the man in critical situation.
The man was rushed to Al Dhaid Hospital, where he is currently surviving on artificial respiration while fighting for his life.
Police said that the man was believed to be suffocated, as he inhaled smoke and drank petrol. All his family members are being interrogated to determine the cause of the incident.
According to the police, the man was suffering from mental problems and this was his second attempt at committing suicide. He had previously jumped from a high-rise, but was saved.
