Brigadier Mohammed Ibrahim Al Bairaq, Director General of Police Operations, said the story appeared on the alkawnnews web portal on August 1.
"Such baseless stories have nothing to do with reality," he said.
Posting or sharing such fake news and rumours on social media have a negative impact on public and destabilise the prevailing safety and security of the country, he underlined.
"No one is entitled to post or share such baseless stories before verification," he added.
As per articles (197 and 198) of the UAE federal law No (3) for the year (1987), any statement, action or news that may disturb public order or impact public safety and security shall be considered a crime, and will be penalised."
