A 41-year-old vendor stood trial on Tuesday accused of molesting a 16-year-old girl.
The Indian man is accused in the Court of First Instance of fondling the girl, also from India, twice as she was in a shopping store, pretending it was just an accident at the time.
The complaint was registered on December 6, 2016, with Al Rafaa police.
The teenager said she went to a shopping store around 6:30 pm and while she was in the stationery aisle a man, who is the accused, bumped into her. "I was totally shocked when he fondled me all of a sudden. I looked at him and there he was smiling. He said it was his mistake and he was sorry".
She continued saying : "Thinking it was just a mistake I forgot about it. I was still in the store when about 15 minutes later the same man came and stood in front of me to touch me inappropriately. He smiled again as he said he was sorry and walked away".
At that point she realized he touched her on purpose. "I felt angry and walked to the exit door where I saw him standing. I screamed at him telling him what he did what wrong and that I would call the police. He ran away when he heard about the police," she told the prosecutor.
She returned home and told her father who took her to the police station and complained.
About two months later, she was summoned by the police and she could identify the defendant among other suspects.
The girl's father, a 47-year-old manager, said his daughter came back home on the incident day around 7 pm. He said he immediately lodged a complaint against the man for sexually abusing his daughter.
The vendor was arrested on February 20 and he remained in detention ever since.
During investigation, he admitted the charge and that he was wrong, asking for mercy.
Photos of the man and the teenager taken from surveillance cameras were used as part of the case file
