An Asian businessman wanted by Interpol got an extraordinary help from the Dubai Police to settle his financial obligations in the UAE.
The man had fled the country after court orders were issued to him in the year 2009 when his company loans mounted to Dh200,000 following the recession. The police said that the Asian family sought help for the man to return to Dubai and clear his dues.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that the Asian man who managed a number of real estate companies fled UAE in 2009 after he failed to pay the financial dues. He evaded arrest in Dubai and an Interpol warrant alert was issued against him.
Al Mansouri added that his family approached the police and said that he wanted to pay back the money through proper legal channels. He said that the police took it up as a unique case so that the affected people, including creditors, who have lost hope in getting their money back will get their dues back.
Colonel Saeed Al Ail, Director of Wanted Section at the Dubai Police, said that family told the police that the manager of the company had embezzled Dh200,000 and the left the country. That's why the businessman, the owner of the company, was forced to leave the country.
Col. Al Ali said that the businessman also wanted to lodge complaint against the manager who embezzled the money on his return. He said that after reviewing necessary documents and evidence, the police helped him to make a legal settlement after paying of money.
He added that the family has showed a good will in returning the money so the police decided to help them.
He also noted that there are countries which do not return Interpol listed people to the Dubai Police.
