Patience is the watchword for any call centre employee. When it comes to police call centre, employees have an additional responsibility to know the authenticity of emergency calls.
The chief of Dubai Police Call Centre 901 said that hundreds of emergency calls they handle daily include "freak and inappropriate" ones.
However, "the 901 staff are capable of dealing wisely and quietly with the different type of calls although some are freak and the way some customers speak is inappropriate," said Major Dr Mohammed Ali Al Hamoodi, Manager of the Call Centre 901.
Narrating one of the freak calls that the call centre received, Ammar Al Ammari, an employee at the call centre, said a woman called the centre claiming to be a princess of a GCC country and accused a well known person in her country of swindling her of $999,999.
"She used to call now and then and tell us the same story. Then she switches her phone off without waiting for a reply from the centre." Ammar added.
Ammar cited another example of a woman who blamed the Dubai Police of watching her when she leaves home between 4 and 6 early morning.
Her accusation was her stepsons dispatched police patrols to stalk on her.
"The centre receives not less than 500 phone calls every day besides the chat service," Al Hamoodi added.
Al Hamoodi said that the centre's employees exercise utmost patience while dealing with angry customers and also keen to satisfy all customers.
The centre has been created with the aim of reducing the pressure on the SOS (emergency) No 999, so that the Dubai Police can provide the best services and attend to customers' inquiries in Arabic and English.
Al Hamoodi also hailed the success of the chat contact service which could handle customers even from abroad.
"This can bring happiness to customers, and at the same time, keeps up with the trends of the smart Dubai government and initiatives of the Dubai City, the smartest worldwide," he said.
