A female shopper has been accused of assaulting a saleswoman following an argument at a garments store in the Capital.
The Abu Dhabi Misdemeanour Court heard that the Emirati woman, who had gone to the store for shopping, allegedly assaulted the saleswoman after they had a quarrel. The saleswoman complained to authorities, alleging that the woman beat her up inside the shop.
Prosecutors referred the Emirati woman after investigations, including the footage from CCTV cameras, revealed that the saleswoman had been attacked. In court, the woman denied the charge of assaulting the saleswoman.
She told the court that she called the saleswoman for help as she was selecting some items but she deliberately ignored her, despite the attempt to call her more than once. The Emirati said the saleswoman deliberately continued to make herself busy by talking to her workmates.
She said she went and opened a wooden shelf that was near her as she looked for some items which hit the saleswoman on the leg but didn't hurt her.
Her lawyer said the 30-minute video footage taken at the store had revealed that the victim verbally assaulted the defendant. He said the saleswoman had raised her voice and abused his client which prompted her supervisor to intervene and call the security.
"My client then walked out of the store. She didn't assault or beat up the saleswoman," argued the lawyer, adding that her client was innocent and should be cleared. The trial was adjourned until March 16.
