A woman has requested a Dubai court that her ex-husband's custody rights of their two children be stripped after she allegedly discovered that he had allowed their five-year-old son to watch pornography.
The court had earlier found the Jordanian man, 34, guilty of having sex outside the wedlock. The court had fined him Dh5,000 and ordered his deportation. The woman sought divorce after the husband was caught on CCTV camera having sex with a Chinese masseuse when she was away in July 2015. Shortly later, she noticed that their son was behaving inappropriately.
The Jordanian woman, 30, said her son touched her and his 18-month-old sister "in a sexual way". She said the boy also touched mannequins in an inappropriate way, which prompted her to take him to a psychologist.
A medical report issued by a community health centre's psychologist confirmed that the child started visiting the clinic after developing a "violent and disturbed behaviour" and was struggling with troubled sleep.
The report said: "During extensive therapy sessions, it was revealed that the child, born in January 2011, had been watching pornography and tried to demonstrate what he saw on his sister and his mother."
The psychologist testified in court saying that the child was progressing, but advised that the child not be left under the father's care.
The woman's Emirati lawyer, Awatif Mohammed from Al Rowad Advocates, told the Dubai Court of Misdemeanors that the "husband's actions jeopardised the child's psychological safety".
Awatif submitted a medical report in the court, which suggested that any meeting between the father and his children -- mainly the son -- must be supervised or the child's condition may deteriorate.
The court dismissed the video recording submitted by the wife because it did not meet the legal conditions as required by the law. However, the court found the husband guilty.
Since then, Awatif has filed a civil case against the father, seeking compensation. She also filed a case with the Personal Status Court, requesting that the father be dismissed from being the guardian of their two children.
Both cases are still ongoing.
