An Arab woman has been ordered by a Fujairah court to pay Dh3 million as compensation after a traffic accident caused by her minor son resulted in a permanent injury to a man.
According to records at the Civil Circuit of the Kalba Federal Court of First Instance, a GCC national sustained critical injuries after he was hit by the car being driven by the minor. The crash left him with a 100 per cent permanent disability.
Consequently, the family of the victim filed a civil lawsuit demanding damages for the physical, psychological and material harms the victim suffered in the mishap.
The court ordered the insurance company to pay Dh3 million to the victim's family.
However, feeling dissatisfied with the court verdict, the insurance company filed a civil lawsuit against the minor's mother - who owned the car that caused the accident - for allowing her son to drive the vehicle, in violation of the terms stipulated in the insurance policy.
In its claims, the insurance company demanded that the offender's mother pay the Dh3 million.
Having reviewed the lawsuit and insurance company's plea, the court ordered the mother to pay the insurance company Dh3 million.
