A construction worker poured gasoline on his company's warehouse keeper and set him on fire, a Dubai court heard on Sunday. The victim died from the burns he received.
The worker, identified as D.K., is also accused of trying to kill another man by pouring gasoline on him, but the latter escaped.
D.K then set the whole warehouse of construction materials in Jebel Ali on fire. After setting the place on fire, D.K. reportedly said: "All of you will die". The 32-year-old accused has been charged in absentia in the Court of First Instance with premeditated murder, premeditated attempted murder and arson.
A Pakistani winch operator, 35, said in the investigation that the defendant and the two victims were talking and shared a laugh shortly before the incident.
However, D.K. left the warehouse and came back after a few minutes carrying a bucket.
The victims were shocked when D.K. poured gasoline on them and around the warehouse.
With a lighter, D.K. set the deceased on fire and the whole place went up in flames.
The victim who survived said the deceased was screaming, but there was nothing he could do to help. He managed to kick open the warehouse's door and escaped.
The deceased ran out of the warehouse in flames even as a security guard used a fire extinguisher on him to try and put out the fire. He died shortly later.
The victim who survived the attack said he did not why D.K. committed the crime. "There were no problems. The relations between us were cordial."
