Two workers stood trial in the Court of First Instance for stealing diesel worth Dh24,000 from a construction site.
The incident was reported on May 30 to Al Rashidiyah police.
A Palestinian engineer for the contracting firm testified that the first accused (30-year-old Pakistani) worked as a night guard while the other (31-year-old Bangladeshi) worked as a driver.
"The two abused their jobs at their company's construction site to steal diesel on different occasions over three months. The guard confessed to us he stole the diesel," the 38-year-old project engineer said.
Another Pakistani worker, 30, testified that the accused worked with him at the construction site in Al Warsan.
"I saw them stealing diesel from the site at night. The guard came to my room to check whether I was sleeping or not.
"As he found I was watching them he told me to keep it a secret and not to report it to anybody. He promised he would give me a share of the stolen diesel after selling it."
A Palestinian purchase section employee, 30, said that the guard admitted during an internal probe that he would open the main entrance gate for his accomplice so that he would smuggle diesel in gallons and then sell it and split the price.
According to prosecution records, the driver would go to the site after hours in the company's bus whereas the guard would let him in; and then together they would fill empty gallons with diesel to smuggle it outside and sell it for their own benefit.
The hearing has been adjourned to August 17.
