The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court has sentenced a young man to five years in jail followed by deportation on charges of assisting others to abuse drugs.
The court found the main suspect, an Arab youth, guilty of buying hashish for three of his friends to take the drugs in violation of law.
The three friends, involved in the case, were convicted of abusing drugs, ordered to pay a fine of Dh10,000 each and deported.
Court records show the main defendant managed to buy the cannabis for his friends.
The suspects were travelling in a car when they were stopped by a police patrol.
The initial check-up showed that they had abused drugs, and were then referred to the criminal lab for an instant test.
The forensic report showed traces of hashish in the blood samples collected from them.
The main suspect admitted to his crime. "They asked me to help them buy hashish, and I did."
The four young men were referred to the RAK Public Prosecution. It charged the first accused with helping others buy, have access to, and abuse drugs, while the three other youth were accused of taking hashish.
The four suspects appeared at the RAK Criminal Court which convicted them all and ordered the rulings against them.
