UAE, Canada discuss boosting ties

UAE Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, met Christina Alexandra Freeland, Canada's Federal Minister of International Trade, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Summit to discuss areas of cooperation for strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
The meeting focused on boosting economic relations, increasing trade and bolstering cooperation in vital sectors such as innovation and knowledge economy. Highlighting steps needed to follow-up on existing economic and trade treaties, the two sides agreed to hold the first UAE-Canada Joint Economic Committee meeting in Ottawa next September.
Trade volumes between the two countries registered $1.864 billion in 2013, marking an increase of 18.1 per cent over the previous year.
Free zone-specific trade increased by 169 per cent over the same period, reaching $970 million in 2013.
