The global finals of the professional services firm KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) began in Dubai Monday. A team of four top students from the UAE have qualified for the finals, which ends on April 16, and they will compete with teams from 27 other countries.

The KICC is an annual competition that challenges students to review and develop solutions for a number of business case studies. Over 20,000 students from 28 countries have competed over the past few months to solve real business issues.

About 112 finalists convened in Dubai to compete against each other and solve a real world business problem live.

Run over the course of four days, teams will be judged by a panel of 23 senior KPMG partners progressing through various rounds before the winners are announced on Thursday.

Ian Gomes of KPMG UAE said: “KICC is one of the world’s largest case competitions and represents KPMG’s flagship student recruitment initiative worldwide.

“The initiative provides students the opportunity to discover the fast-paced world of casework and test their ability to develop innovative solutions for real-world business issues.

“Further, KICC is an amazing opportunity for students to gain experience of addressing real life business challenges. The Middle East is fast emerging as a hub for new and innovative business ideas across industries and it is very apt that the finals of the competition are taking place in the region.”

KPMG UAE hires 35-50 graduates every year and this programme provides the opportunity for students to experience what working at KPMG would be like and the sort of challenges they address for clients around the world every day.

Ritika Shah, a member of the Hult International Business School, said: “Some of the world’s most challenging problems can be solved through a combination of smart business solutions and commitment and there is no dearth of talent in the Middle East to find solutions to relevant problems.

“We are delighted to have reached this far in the competition and for the opportunity to present our business ideas before a panel of judges.”

The final of the KPMG International Case Competition will be taking place at the Emirates Aviation College in Dubai on 16 April.
