The Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (DPW) has started construction of 34 state-of-the-art model schools in the emirate at a total cost of Dh152.5 million.
Under the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the DPW started the construction and has provided modern equipment.
Shaikh Khaled bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of DPW, appreciated the support of Dr Shaikh Sultan by approving Dh152.5 million as a budget of the first phase. He assured that DPW works to put the Ruler’s directives into action. He also confirmed that intensified construction works will start away from existing school premises so as not to hinder or obstruct normal work in these schools.
According to Khaled Al Qasimi, “DPW has been keen to coordinate with the Sharjah Education Council to enumerate and identify all the requirements of the project. The first phase will involve construction of several educational facilities in 34 first-cycle schools in Sharjah and other towns, including but not limited to multipurpose sports halls, theatres, IT and Science Labs, school clinks, activity halls, outdoor playgrounds and courtyard sheds.”
Helal Al Sahi, Director of Construction Department at DPW explained that the educational annexes were designed meeting the most up-to-date world-class standards. These designs were approved after intensive specialised studies to assure safety and quality terms and conditions, with suitable spaces to ensure convenient educational environment.”
The DPW is preparing the designs for 36 second-cycle schools in preparation for the construction works of second phase of the project.— afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
