Despite the fact that they never studied at a university, 52 Emirati women on Tuesday graduated from the Kayani programme, an Emirates Foundation initiative, and are now qualified to work as assistant teachers. The graduates were congratulated by Shaikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, foundation board member, during a ceremony.

The 12-month programme is divided into two phases: Theory and practical. During the theoretical stage, the women were provided with key principles for working as assistant teachers. The second phase prepared them to put their knowledge into practice at various public schools across the UAE.
Kayani was launched in 2012 specifically to train Emirati women in the age group of 18 to 35 years, to work as assistant teachers.
“We are proud of what these women have achieved in the last 12 months. Knowledge is a powerful tool and we have seen their motivation to give back to the community,” said Maytha Al Habsi, CEO at Emirates Foundation.
