As private Sharjah schools resumed classes for around 170,000 students earlier this week, nearly 90 per cent remained in distance learning and about 19,000 had opted for face-to-face classes and hybrid education. The emirate’s education authorities, however, reminded parents that they can easily switch their kids’ learning modes in the middle of the school year.
Students in Sharjah are free to enrol in any of the three education systems: 100 per cent virtual classes, onsite learning, and hybrid education which is a mix of both. Out of the total number of schoolkids, 149,568 are currently full-time e-learners.
Though majority of students are learning from home, the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) ensures that campuses are implementing all safety precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
A top SPEA official confirmed that the school reopening had been safe and smooth in the emirate, with no complaints or violations recorded since the first day of the second term.
“Schools received their students with the precautionary measures in place and the SPEA was able to verify their full compliance,” Muhadditha Al Hashemi, chairperson of SPEA, told Khaleej Times.
Ali Al Hosani, director of SPEA, said the authority had started the second academic term with a number of inspection tours and schools had proven that they are determined to provide a healthy educational environment for their students. The SPEA continues to carry out intensive inspections to ensure safety at over 117 private schools throughout the academic year.
