While students are excited about the smell of new books and uniforms, and ready to flaunt their bags with that One Direction or Batman picture, parents are wringing their hands and wallets. Mall and retail outlets across the UAE have once again come out with promotional offers.
"I got my older son his backpack from Ed Hardy this year. I paid Dh600 for it. My younger one wanted a Kippling bag for Dh999, I refused to get it for him," said Amina Soussi, mother of two boys.
"Getting back to school is a difficult transition for mothers and children after two long months of carefree routine.
