The duration of classes in Abu Dhabi public schools has been cut to 30 minutes.

The school operations sector of the Emirates Institution for Institutional Education on Saturday sent circulars to schools and teachers informing them to reduce the class duration from 45 minutes to 30 minutes, while maintaining a five-minute rest between classes, and the inclusion of a 15-minute break during the school day.

The circular, to be implemented immediately, covers all classes from Grade 1 to Grade 12.

For kindergartens, the class duration will remain the same as it was specified in the study plan for that stage-30 minutes for each lesson. Their school day constitutes of four lessons for all children in KG-1 and KG-2.

The daily lessons offered to students in public schools include; Arabic language, Mathematics and two lessons in English and Science.

The schools also teach one lesson per week in Islamic Education and Social Studies, as well as providing video clips by female teachers.

Authorities said school administrators have informed parents about the new changes in class duration. They noted that the new decision was greatly welcomed by parents, the administrative and teaching staff.

Public schools in the emirate had continued with the remote learning programme as part of precautionary measures to protect students and the school community against Covid-19.
