Abu Dhabi students embark on 'Stem' studies

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has launched the second edition of Journey of Discovery campaign with a focus on schools and universities across the emirate.
By the end of this academic year, Adec will establish 255 Innovation Clubs across the emirate, providing every school with state-of-the-art laboratories in science, technology, engineering and Mathematics (Stem).
The laboratories will enable the latest in pedagogy including the concept of flip laboratories, said Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Adec's Director General. Dr Al Qubaisi stressed that "innovation is the nation's bridge to the future, and is not new to the UAE and its leadership, since it has always played an integral role in driving major initiatives forward throughout the history of the Emirate, both on a national and international level."
Adec offers new learning experiences that will enable students to participate in a wide range of initiatives including, Innovation Centres, Programming for Life, Young Scientist Competition, Innovation Clubs, Innovation Ambassadors, Innovation Barometer, Innovative Leaders, the director general said.
She added that the Adec curriculum is designed to support innovation through a focus on Stem subjects, hands-on practical learning through real-life projects, and extensive involvement of the industry. She stressed that private school participation in the campaign is crucial, as they play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education for youth.
The Journey of Discovery campaign has been focusing on establishing interaction amongst students, educators and parents.
It coincides with the beginning of the new academic year, which will see a participation of 128,000 public school students and 230,000 private school students.
