The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) recently organised a one-day orientation session for newly hired teachers set to join schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region in the 2016-17 academic year.
Adec director-general Dr Ali Al Nuaimi welcomed more than 600 Emirati, English medium and Arabic medium teachers.
During his welcome speech, Al Nuaimi gave an overview of some of Adec's milestones, projects and activities, offering an overall synopsis on the emirate's education sector. "The Abu Dhabi Education Council has embarked on a new reform project, aiming to become a world class education system training students to meet global challenges," he said.
Highlighting the Abu Dhabi School Model, Al Nuaimi said it is designed to encourage, enhance and develop children's thinking skills. "The curriculum focuses on students' thinking, problem solving and communication skills, and is designed to enhance students' performance to reach international levels, which is exactly why we require teachers like you, to understand and implement the curriculum," explained Dr Al Nuaimi.
The director-general added that the body is keen to support existing and new teachers as well as non-teaching staff through continuous professional development programmes that enable them to acquire skills and capabilities to apply the latest pedagogies.
