The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) organised an induction day for the Faculty of Education of Higher Institutions with regards to several aspects of the council’s New School Model (NSM). This was done with emphasis on the curriculum, assessment, policies, special education and eLearning.
University representatives present at the meeting included the University Deans, Education Department Heads and Faculty of Education institutions from across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, representing the Khalifa University, ECAE, Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology, Abu Dhabi University, Al Ain University and Al Hosn University.
The purpose of the meeting is to keep the teachers in higher education institutes up-to-date with ADEC’s NSM, which encourages child-centred learning, cultural engagement and applied knowledge.
“ADEC’s vision is to encourage students to become life-long learners who are proud of their own culture and heritage while supporting active engagement and hands-on experience. The New School Model is a key element in fulfilling the vision of Abu Dhabi 2030 since it focuses on developing the student as a communicator, thinker and problem solver, all traits necessary for tomorrow’s globally competitive market environment,” said Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, ADEC’s Director-General.
ADEC’s Director-General added, “We look forward to receiving more Emirati teacher graduates in schools, and look forward to seeing more teachers take up specialties such as Music, Art, Sports and Information Technology.”
During the meeting, Dr. Karima Al Mazroui, ADEC’s Curriculum Division Manager, explained that the attendees have gained access to ADEC’s P-12 Policy and P-12 curriculum, with emphasis on subjects such as Arabic and English languages, Mathematics, Science, Art, Music; Assessment, Special Education and eLearning.
“The NSM caters to the different learning styles of each student, that is why it is essential that teachers are aware of the different learning activities and education reforms, which they are required to gracefully deliver using the appropriate teaching/learning methodologies and outcomes,” concluded Dr. Al Mazroui.
