Stationery coupons worth Dh3 million have been distributed to students of registered low-income families by the Beit Al Khair Society ahead of the new academic year.
Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, director-general of the society, said the stationery coupons are part of the 'Taaleem / Education' programme.
"The coupons include stationery stuff, study fees, research, study tools and electronic gadgets for university students, including laptops and tablets, and charges of graduation researches."
Records show that 12,758 students of the 3,716 families registered on monthly allowances have benefited from the stationery project.
Supporting education is one of the main objectives of Beit Al Khair, underlined Al Awadhi. "The society supports 14,000 students nationwide annually under the 'Stationery' and 'Tayseer' projects, meant to support the students of low-income families."
Zayed Chair
Beit Al Khair also launched 'Zayed Chair' to mark the 100th birthday anniversary of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founding father of the UAE, who supported education and invested in human beings.
"It is a fully funded scholarship whereby a student is offered a free study chair. Eligible candidates will be studying until graduation at the expenses of the university."
The initiative has been positively adopted by the Ajman University, Zayed University, Jumeirah University, American College of Dubai, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and Amity University. "Negotiations with other universities are underway to introduce more scholarships. Priorities are given to orphans and children from vulnerable families."
