Speaking with Khaleej Times, Professor Dr Amitabh Upadhya, Dean SUC said: “The conference aims to bring together academics from leading international varsities to serve the purpose of developing research in the UAE.”

The conference on ‘Global Perspectives of Business and Management’ hosted discussions on various aspects of change in aviation, hospitality, travel and tourism, IT, marketing, business management and finance.

“There is reluctance from local organisations when it comes to supporting research. But, we are seeing a change and there will be a positive trend in the years to come as we see more academic research commissioned,” added Prof Amitabh.

The University has already carried out various research projects including a study on low-cost airlines and their impact on the Sharjah Economy, the role of free zones in Sharjah and more recently a study to understand the consumer perception of locally created brands.

Prof Dr Sudhakar Kota, Associate Professor at SUC said, “Such conferences help us promote industry links and showcase the importance of research and how it contributes to the development of an economy.

The global expertise will help local researchers by giving them a better idea of how to use statistics and information to reveal new findings.”

The University currently has over 900 students and academics work together in contributing to build a knowledge-based economy, with research studies at the core.
