Center for Public Policy and Leadership

The Center aspires to create sustainable partnerships with different public institutions to provide specialized support in the areas of leadership, policy design, policy implementation and policy evaluation. It also aims to offer the best practices and innovative approaches in dealing with the various challenges facing the United Arab Emirates, as well as to become a key partner in excellence and innovation in public policy, governance, and leadership.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, UAEU Vice Chancellor, said “Following the directive of Shaikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of UAEU, which was approved at the last University Council meeting, the Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership has been established with four main objectives. These are: to conduct specialized research on various aspects of public policy and leadership; to develop an information bank; to provide training and professional development programs for those working in the field of public policy, and to promote fruitful and cooperative relationships with the community and stakeholders.”

Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, UAEU Provost, commented “The Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership represents yet another undertaking into situating the UAEU at the forefront of the nation’s journey to prosperity and development. The establishment of the Center further consolidates national efforts to addressing societal policy issues and concerns through scholarly expertise and scientific research. United Arab Emirates University houses the country’s largest community of local and international intellectual capabilities necessary for searching for innovative public policy practices, and we pledge to put them to effective use for the purpose of achieving this objective.”

Prof. Mohamed Albaili, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), UAEU, said “The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has played a key role in conceiving, designing, and implementing the Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership. Our College is confident that the successful performance of the Center will be facilitated by the wealth of institutional resources available at the UAEU, under the dedicated leadership of Sheikh Nahyan. He added that “The CHSS is well positioned to addressing substantive and methodological issues related to public policy processes, both theoretically and empirically. The multiplicity of scientific disciplines in the social sciences and humanities is conducive to effectively introducing the inherently interdisciplinary nature of public policy and leadership subjects”, Prof. Albaili added.
