This year, the student-oriented conference will be held at the Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology and is part of a week of educational celebrations and activities hosted by the HCT to mark the milestone in its short history.

Under the main theme of ‘Bridging the Gap — Innovative Solutions to Global Educational Challenges’, the EWB 2013 special edition will continue with the initiatives of the conference, which started in 2001, by facilitating a group of international and Emirati student delegates, together with a team of experienced mentors, to discuss innovative ways to ensure that education is available for all communities around the globe.

Vice-Chancellor of the HCT and EWB chairman Dr Tayeb Kamali said there was always a great deal of excitement and anticipation with the long-standing international student conference: “We are all looking forward to hosting sustained thought-provoking discussions and debates, interesting and relevant presentations and the creation of lasting networks of like-minded people, young and old, all aiming for a better world to live in,” he said.

Dr Kamali said the biennial EWB conference had grown rapidly since its humble beginnings in 2001: “As we celebrate another milestone event in the HCT’s 25th anniversary this year, it is opportune to recognise that the conference has grown to become one of the world’s foremost student-organised forums — an event where students from around the world, and from different backgrounds, join as one voice to pursue innovative solutions to Global educational challenges,” he added.
