Covid-19 in UAE: Virtual classrooms would be just like real ones

Abu Dhabi - School uniform is not mandatory, but children need to be dressed in smart casuals for remote learning classes.

Though classes will go online from today, the general setup would resemble real classrooms, educators have told Khaleej Times. The classes would entail a proper routine and students will learn from a setup similar to the desk-and-chair one they are used to in schools.

Classes would be conducted as per timetables shared with parents and students previously. Attendance would be marked, too.

Zubair Ahmad from Springdales School Dubai said presentations and video links have already been shared with students. "Beginning today, teachers will 'go live' on Microsoft Team and will engage in other collaborative online activities to complete syllabuses as per the regular academic year."

School uniform is not mandatory, but children need to be dressed in smart casuals for remote learning classes.

Many schools have already shared Q&A sheets with all stakeholders and conducted trial runs of the remote classes.

Nicholas Bruce, deputy headteacher - learning & teaching, GEMS Wellington International School, said: "Our curriculum is catered for e-learning and we are fully prepared. Our teachers have been creating phenomenal online learning resources including recorded videos, activities using interactive online platforms and dynamic modes for students to communicate during their learning.

"Our British and IB curriculum is perfectly suited for remote learning as we place a great emphasis on developing students' independent learning skills, so this is a great opportunity for all our students and staff to shine."
