Last week, Dubai Contracting Company (DCC) celebrated the 10th anniversary of its landmark DSLIP Internship Program, also known as the James A. Mandel and Samuel P. Clemence DCC-SU-LAU Internship Program. The 2019 DSLIP Graduation Ceremony was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Dubai on July 3, 2019. During the last decade, around 160 Civil Engineering undergraduate students from Syracuse University (USA) and the Lebanese American University (Lebanon) have successfully participated in and graduated from this program.
At the graduation ceremony, the program's co-founders - DCC's Chairman Abdul Hamied Seddiqi of Seddiqi & Sons Investment LLC and DCC's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Abdallah H. Yabroudi handed out the graduation certificates and prizes to the students and congratulated them on successfully completing the program.
What is DSLIP
The DCC DSLIP Internship Program is unlike any other internship program in the Middle East's Construction Industry, wherein each year eight of the top Civil Engineering students from both Syracuse University and the Lebanese American University apply for and are awarded a place in the annual program, which is held over a period of one month at DCC's head office and multiple sites in Dubai.
The program also provides opportunity to Civil Engineering professors from each university to participate in the program's presentation. DCC also provides for travel of the students and professors, their accommodation and expenses for activities, which includes cultural and social events, during their time in the UAE.
Each day of the program involves the students in site, plant or factory visits to gain practical experience of construction practices, techniques and technologies. This is followed by daily lectures at DCC's Dubai offices on several related subject areas ranging from Construction Management to Commercial Management presented by DCC's highly experienced team of project managers, engineers and specialists in their respective fields. The internship also includes a structured and rigorous routine of tests, examinations, case studies and research projects, which are essential requirements for every student to succeed in in order to be awarded the credit hours that contribute to their degrees.
DCC's program successfully provides the students both academic lessons and practical experiences in international construction industry practices in the Gulf region as well as exposing them to the regional culture and society, thus enabling them to return to their countries with a wider perspective and broader understanding of Gulf, its values, traditions and significant achievements.
Dubai Contracting Company builds a better tomorrow
Established in 1962, by the late founder Hasan Abdallah Yabroudi (1922-2003), DCC is today a leading Middle East construction company headquartered in Dubai. DCC specialises in building residential, commercial, mixed-use building, hospitality and leisure complexes.
DCC spans three generations and five decades of expertise. It has grown from a first rate contracting firm, to a unique and highly sought-after organisation - one that offers a turnkey solution through design and execution, alongside access to a network of worldclass names in architecture and engineering.

The company has an enviable reputation for quality that is widely acknowledged by clients and consultants in the region. DCC's entire organisation is committed to the achievement of quality, which the firm believes differentiates it from its competitors. By using previous projects as benchmarks as well as various internal control systems, DCC ensures that it always abides by its founding principle of achieving the best quality in construction possible.
Influential and respected, this approach has delivered many memorable and groundbreaking landmark buildings in the UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.
DCC believes that buildings are more than just plans turned into physical structures. They are the ultimate embodiment of human imagination made real. Everything DCC does accentuates and celebrates this aspect. Along the skylines of the Arabian Gulf and beyond, DCC's buildings stand testament to it.
For this, DCC constantly upgrades its employees' skills to ensure that their expertise is top of the class. Deploying cutting-edge building technologies, the company consistently thrives to maximise efficiency in every project. This, in turn, lets the clients reap the benefits of buildings built on time and on budget.
DCC also believes in a strong culture of cleanliness and organised workflow. This discipline is just one aspect of the high standards the company demands throughout the construction process.
In addition, its toolbox of construction resources always has latest and best-in-technology products and expertise to perfect its competitive, cost-effective construction processes.
The resulting buildings are the sum of this approach. Some of its imminent projects include Burj Al Salam, Capricorn Tower, Fairmont Hotel The Palm, Four Seasons Resort, O14 Tower and Rolex Tower.
In recent years, turnkey projects have justifiably become a growing aspect of the DCC business.
The reason is clear. In every such project, DCC offers its clients dependability, control and convenience.
There are substantial benefits to a comprehensive turnkey relationship with DCC. Because of the trust put in by the clients, DCC becomes its single source, one dependable partner - from the very first planning stages, through all design and engineering, right down to the smallest details and finishing touches of interior design.
Besides, DCC also puts in added value from its innovative solutions.
Increasingly, the mechanical and electrical systems and technologies that are involved in areas such as lighting, plumbing, air conditioning and security systems play a vital and integral role in the life of all buildings.
DCC has the expertise to offer innovative service packages in facilities management. Each such package will ensure both the uninterrupted comfort and the smooth functioning of the buildings. In addition to these packages and its standard services, DCC is always innovating, offering solutions that are right at the cutting-edge of technology and thinking.
For instance, state-of-the-art communication infrastructure is now a regular part of DCC's offering. Its IP-centric designs, built on a converged network platform, allows for the seamless integration of an ever-increasing range of ICT, security and audio/visual services and solutions: perfect for the modern connected society.
