Dubai – Scoring 99 in four subjects for your board exams is no ordinary feat and Hannah Mathew knows it all too well. Hannah, a student of Gems Modern Academy, scored 99 in English, Chemistry, Biology and Math, helping her set a cumulative score of 99 per cent.
An experimental error in her Physics practical exam didn’t affect her scores as the top four subjects including English are counted in the aggregate. She scored 92 in physics.
Speaking with Khaleej Times from India, Hannah said, “Since the beginning of Grade 12, I have been very motivated to do things better. My parents, friends and teachers played a very supportive role and I owe the good scores to their support. It’s amazing how much they believe in you and you end up doing so well.”
Currently in India to write entrance exams for medical school, Hannah said the scores had surprised her too.
“Honestly, I was a bit surprised myself because I was expecting around 97 per cent. After hearing the result, everyone in my family and friend circle has been very proud,” she said.
Nargish Khambata, Principal at GEMS Modern Academy said, “Hannah has been in every single musical of ours. She is our ace athlete and she is an all-rounder who has been among the top students. The results are just a reflection of the excellent work done by our teachers and students.”
Hannah said her good performance in school has been made possible because of her focus and attention during study time.
“I was really motivated to do my ultimate best in the last year of school and I decided to put in a little more effort. Focusing on what you do in your present is what’s most important. You have to be consistent to do well. Even doing well in your term exams is important.” added Hannah.
Without good teachers, good results are not possible and Hannah didn’t miss a chance to thank some of her favourite teachers at school.
“Sometimes when I was getting a little out of sync with my studies, my teacher used to bring me back on track and advise me. I would like to thank all my teachers and the whole school but most importantly three teachers, Mrs Vinaya (chemistry teacher), Mrs, Neogi (biology teacher) and Mrs Menon (physics teacher) have been instrumental,” highlighted Hannah.
Gems Modern Academy has received a 100 per cent pass rate with more than 45 per cent of all students scoring above 90 per cent in their Grade 12 exams.
Kuhelika Ghosh was the school topper in humanities with a score of 98.5 per cent and Sreelakshmi Pushpanadh topped the commerce stream with 97 per cent.
In the ICSE examinations, Sanchit Kapoor ranked first with a score of 97.8 per cent. Rishab Sukumar came second at 97.4 per cent.
