Ahmed Mohammed, Head of Safety Section – ET, told Khaleej Times that they received passengers from over 47 planes from across the globe.

“The move, part of a programme themed ‘School Transport Week’, is aimed at developing parents’ awareness about the importance of getting ready for the new academic year.”

Emirates Transport, in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Airports, distributed more than 5,000 gifts — mainly stationery items to the youngsters and their families over the last three days.

“The arriving passengers were received from 5pm to 8pm with Arabian coffee, gifts and prizes, reflecting the generosity of the Emirati people.”

Mohammed said the programme consisted of two main activities. “The ‘Back to School’ scheme implies the distribution of gifts and prizes while the ‘Idle Family’ involves a number of queries about safety and security.”

Hassan Ahmed Al Ubaidali, Director of Public School Transport, ET, said a number of workshops and cultural activities were also organised under the ‘School Transport Week’. “As many as 465 female bus supervisors and 537 bus drivers participated in these activities.”

Abu Mohammed, Egyptian, said he was happy about the move, and said his kids were in need of such gentle reception and warming up before the new academic year.

“My wife and I are really concerned about the safety and security of our children, and wish to see more of such activities all year round.”

Sara Ahmed, grade 10, said she was happy about the gift. “I will keep the stationery items I got as a souvenir,” she said, noting that her family was chosen as an ideal family due to high awareness about safety rules.
