Emirati students complete Nasa training

The first green building amongst hospitals and medical centers in Dubai as well as the first LEED certified Gold Rated Green Building in the Emirate MedHealth Medical Centre was opened on Wednesday.

The fourth batch of UAE students, who took part in the Space EduVentures educational trip to the Space Center Houston, attended workshops, trainings, and lectures to gain a better understanding on the integrated links between science, technology, engineering, and space.

The 26 high school students from the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) designed an effective mars-rover made to collect rock samples, took part in space training diving sessions, met with experts in different technology and space related fields, and designed, created, and launched a rocket.

“IAT and Space EduVentures have become reputed partners to the Space Center Houston,” commented Lauren Bedrich, Educational Instructor “We have worked hard with them to help inspire and educate the next generation of Arab students on the rewarding and vast applications that science and technology have in today’s world”

“We had two major workshops within the training program. The first workshop revolved around the science and the mechanics of creating a space suit. The students were really keen on learning that science and engineering work hand in hand to ensure safety and functionality. The second workshop was conducted in a pool where the students trained with our diving experts to experience minimum gravity. This is the same training that astronauts go through” Lauren continued.

“The students took part in many activities that tested their abilities and engaged their intellect to a higher level,” added Hussain Al Ansari, CEO of Space EduVentures. “They gained first-hand knowledge to the process it takes to train and educate astronauts.”

In addition to astronaut training, the students also learned the requirements and the knowledge needed to manage the Mission Control center.

“It provided them with an over view of how many different elements take part to make a space mission a success,” he added.

The program is enriched with many different technologies in different branches of science. With our programs, we hope to provide the students with a well-rounded experience that can help them become inspired and cultivate aspirations” concluded Hussain.
