The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI), the region's first design university, will nurture the next generation of designers. Some of the jobs the students of today will be vying for in the future include an Augmented Reality Designer, App Developer, Gaming Designer, Chief Drone Strategist, Wearable Tech Designer and Chief Design Officer - 85 per cent of which are not yet even created.
Hani Asfour, Associate Dean at DIDI, commented: "DIDI offers the region's only integrated Bachelor of Design degree and with its strong focus on innovation, the university will ensure you'll not become obsolete due to robotics and automation but also be able to turn your passion for gaming, apps and digital products into a career."
He added: "As we head into a world where blockchains and robots will be the norm, DIDI is changing how the world educates university students through a cross-disciplinary programme. We'll future-proof their careers and prepare them to take advantage of a new wave of unimagined opportunities. In doing so, DIDI will create a multi-skilled, innovative generation of graduates. They will have transferable skills to humanise technology through design so that they can seize these jobs of the future, while also propelling Dubai to the top of the Global Innovation Index, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai."
With most of tomorrow's jobs unimagined and the MENA region needing 30,000 more designers by 2019, now is the time to think big when it comes to career choices.
Admissions are now open for DIDI's four-year Bachelor of Design Degree (BDes). The curriculum has been crafted in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Parsons School of Design, and is firmly embedded in design-thinking and creative problem solving. In place of a single major, students have the opportunity to combine two design concentrations from four and create their own 'cross-concentration' study path.
DIDI is a private, not-for-profit education institution. Following the direction of Sheikh Mohammed, DIDI was established by Dubai Holding and Dubai Creative Clusters Authority. DIDI has been accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education and will enrol its first class of students in Fall 2018.
