GEF to thrust education for employability into spotlight
With youth employment prospects still a massive challenge in the Arab world, education for employability initiatives are driving key reforms in education curriculums throughout the region.
At the forthcoming Gulf Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) 2103 exhibition, education for employability would get the spotlight in several key presentations at the Global Education Forum (GEF), an initiative of the Ministry of Education of the UAE.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the GESS and GEF will take place on March 5-7 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
According to ‘Education for Employment: Realising Arab Youth Potential’, a report published by the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank, one out of four young people in the Arab world is unemployed, costing the region more than $50 billion each year.
“The solution to this massive challenge requires a comprehensive approach involving a broad range of stakeholders. Behind every crisis is an opportunity, and through the Global Education Forum at GESS, we are pushing this to the forefront of discussions on education reforms,” said Education Minister Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami.
In addition to the top-level discussions offered by the GEF at GESS 2013, the region’s leading educational exhibition, which has adopted the theme ‘Smart Learning and Technological Advances in Education’, will showcase some of the world’s biggest providers of ICT and e-learning solutions, interactive technologies, scientific and laboratory equipment and a large range of other educational supplies, giving visitors and participants access to new technologies and technological advances in the field of education which they can harness to improve learning and teaching in classrooms all over the GCC region.
