The school is owned and operated by GEMS Education, one of the world’s largest private school operators, in partnership with the Baniyas Investment and Development Company (BIDC), the investment arm of Baniyas Sports Club. The project was completed in less than 14 months.

Offering the National Curriculum for England from FS1 — eventually through to Year13 — GEMS Cambridge will ultimately cater to 3,400 students.

Commenting on the opening of the school, Subhi Benkhadra, CEO of BIDC, said: “This marks an important milestone in our ongoing partnership with GEMS Education and for the BAS project as a whole. The BIDC is bringing a wide range of services to the residents of Baniyas City and the region, now including one of the very best private schools in the entire country.

“The response to the school by families in Abu Dhabi has been wonderful. We have opened with over 1,205 students in FS1 to Year 8; demand for places has been very high. We look forward to the growth and development of the school as we expand our year groups and become a cornerstone of the community,” said Rebecca Plaskitt, Principal of GEMS Cambridge International School – Abu Dhabi.

GEMS Cambridge International School – Abu Dhabi is part of Phase III of the Bawabat Al Sharq Project — a Dh3 billion complete community project in Baniyas City. The development is a mix of modern residential, retail, entertainment and commercial facilities. It comprises premium apartments, villas, health care and educational facilities, and the distinctive BASMall, which hosts 240 prime retail shops and facilities over two floors covering a gross leasable area of 62,625 square metres.

GEMS Education owns and operates a global network of award-winning international schools. The GEMS schools provide high quality holistic education to more than 142,000 students of 151 nationalities.
