Students at GEMS International Schools in the UAE have again improved performance in the 2015 A Level examinations. As many as 33 per cent of students have received A*-A, which is higher than the UK national average indicators which have yet to be announced. In addition, 65 per cent of students achieved A* - B across the GEMS Schools offering the National Curriculum for England.
There was significant achievement at The Westminster School, Dubai, with 43 per cent of students obtaining A* - A. Thirty five per cent of students achieved A*-A and 65 per cent of students achieved A*- B at the Cambridge High School Abu Dhabi and the Cambridge International School in Dubai.
"Once again, GEMS schools have built up on their previous performance levels in the A Level results for 2015. I am delighted for the students in our schools whose exceptional examination results are a testament to their hard work and form a strong foundation for their future careers and pathways. Teachers and parents should also be filled with pride, as these results demonstrate their commitment in ensuring such success for our young people. All of this indicates that the gap in performance levels between GEMS schools and national benchmarks in England continues to widen in our drive to achieve the highest of standards," said Fiona Cottam, senior vice-president schools, GEMS Education.
At Jumeirah College, Dubai, where 113 students entered for A levels, Simon O'Connor, Principal and CEO, was delighted with the results this year. "We are enormously proud of our students' success at Jumeirah College. These achievements are the result of consistent hard work from the students, with the unswerving support and assistance from both their teachers and parents. We are particularly proud that four of our students have secured places to study medicine in the UK, one of the hardest courses to gain places in the world. In an increasingly competitive environment our students continue to excel and enter the next phase of their lives equipped with the very best foundations."
International Baccalaureate
GEMS schools also continue to perform above the international averages in the International Baccalaureate, the results of which were published in July of this year. The pass rate for GEMS schools at 90 per cent, is more than 10 per cent higher than the international pass rate. The average score of 33 demonstrates an improvement on previous results and is consistently improving against world averages which this year was recorded at 29.8.
