Students from 16 schools in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah rallied together in a creative showcase of talent to create awareness about conservation and the environment at the second inter-school environment competition — Ecophilia 2014 — hosted by Our Own High School, Al Warqa’a, Dubai.
Ecophilia aims to instil a strong awareness in students on the need to conserve planet Earth and adopt eco-friendly practices as part of their lifestyle. It blends student creativity and competitive spirit through an array of competitions themed on environmental conservation.
The competitions included appearing in fancy dress, dance, drawing, painting and a special category called ‘budding environmentalist’. The theme for the fancy dress contest was ‘Think green, eat green, go green’ while the dance competition focussed on ‘precious drops’ to underline the importance of water resources. In the budding environmentalist category contestants had to display strategic planning abilities, while the drawing and painting competitions were centred on making a difference.
