With regular classes, extra classes in school, tuitions and weekend study groups, students have begun cramming a year's worth of study material.
Students attempting the exam admit that time management, systematically completing daily lessons, and routinely attempting practice question papers is the only way to study. But is that kind of a rigorous schedule suited for every child?
Seven out of 10 students surveyed by Khaleej Times attended tuitions in education centres or with private tutors. And this is after regular classes in the morning and remedial lessons in the afternoon. After which they head back home to complete their homework or revise for an upcoming class test. In some cases, these centres charge parents a whopping Dh14,000 for two academic years, which can be paid in instalments.
Sakshi Koul (15), a student of Indian High School, said: "In this case, the portions are very vast and though the teachers are very helpful, tuitions help to prepare you for a subject you're weak in."
Aadhya Pai (15) said, "The centre organises regular tests, which I find very helpful. Yes, I agree that the schedule is very hectic, but I make time for other activities on leaner days and the weekends, which really helps me calm down."
