Lord Green, UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, opened the facility at Dubai Academic City on Sunday.

He said that there was a nine per cent increase in UK exports to the UAE this year and an even larger increase in the UAE exports to the UK.

Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, UAE Minister of Education, attended the official inauguration of the second phase of Heriot-Watt University Dubai campus.

“On top of the trade in tangible goods, the UK and UAE are partners in education which is critical to the future of both our economies. Since the establishment of a UK-UAE Taskforce in 2010, we continue to look at ways to collaborate even further,” said Lord Green.

The university’s new structure features on-campus accommodation along with other student services. The accommodation blocks are separate for male and female students, each have five floors featuring 16 rooms per floor with a total of 160 rooms. The new facility has an auditorium with seating for 700 students along with a host of leisure facilities, a food court, a coffee house, and beauty salon.

Professor Steve Chapman, Principal and Vice-chancellor of Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus, added: “The official opening is the realisation of a lot of planning and hard work for the university. The Dubai Campus, with its 3,500 students across a variety of disciplines, is of great importance to Heriot-Watt University’s international expansion.

The university is also launching a number of PhD programmes in an effort to develop research capability at the campus. This university will also host international professional and research conferences, such as the International Psychology Conference, Dubai, which will take place on November 1 this year. The university is also looking forward to offering its fundamental engineering subject areas, Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering with a focus on Petroleum, Oil and Gas.
