The moment we hear summer holidays, we think of partying and relaxing. But we end up doing homework, homework and homework. We are not born just to study. Yes, I do understand holiday homework helps us stay in touch with studies but we also have to value family time. I think holiday homework should be more about visiting places  or learning more from observing the real world rather than projects, models and worksheets.

Of course, it is very helpful as it helps us remain connected with our studies during the long term vacation. In upper primary classes, copy writing can be added as an exercise to help students improve their handwriting skills. Moreover in each school, some teachers who are not going for vacation can dedicate their time in helping students over the phone.

Though everyone loves summer vacation, holiday homework usually ends up spoiling all the excitement. Although it seems like a spoilsport, I think the homework becomes a reminder of what we have learnt. If a child does not do the work, he might have a hard time after the holidays. Holiday homework should not be cancelled, but we could have more interactive online homework.

Holiday homework and projects are a means to keep in touch with our studies. Practice makes perfect. So, through holiday homework, one can improve one’s weaknesses, keep track of all chapters and clear doubts of respective topics. On the other hand, we should not forget to enjoy ourselves and have fun. In short, we should maintain a balance between study and play.

Homework during school vacations isn’t helpful for most students who end up visiting their native place. We travel with an intention to enjoy, refresh our mind, attend functions, meet extended family and get together with them. There is no purpose of having holiday homework and honestly it actually leads to nothing. Most of us don’t even find time to do such home work.

The summer break is not a vacation but study leave for Summative Assessments. We have exams right after our vacation. At the back of our mind we know we need to return to our books. But holiday assignments do help us keep in touch with our studies. Holiday assignment is beneficial but excess homework plus exam preparations feel  like a burden for students.
