Dubai — There is no doubt about the fact that the word ‘homework’ evokes deep emotions from students and their parents. The extent of its impact was evident in a poll that khaleejtimes.com ran asking if the practice should be done away with. A little over 50 per cent of the respondents were against abolishing homework, saying it has its own benefits, while the rest regarded it as a waste of time.

Following a news report that questioned the usefulness of homework and advocated doing away with the practice altogether, KT ran a poll on its website and social media pages and interviewed a few students and parents to get their views on the issue.

While a few students were quick to say homework was a waste of time and limited creativity (why are we not surprised!), parents felt a little homework was necessary, though schools should not go overboard with it. In the online poll (see graphic), 54.3 per cent of respondents were in favour of homework.
