With the demand for Indian law programmes increasing among Indian students in the GCC, Amity University, Dubai, is all set to offer the programme. It is, in fact, the first campus to be approved by the Bar Council of India to offer law programmes out of India.
"Students have been forced to go back to their home country, that is India, because of the lack of availability of the law programmes here. Now, after announcing the five year integrated BA LLB programme, we have been receiving several enquiries from students and their parents. The course will begin in September and we expect students to get enrolled a month in advance," said Mariam Shaikh, Vice-President, Student Recruitment &Admissions.
The programme will give students of all nationalities a valid degree acceptable to the Bar Council of India, but they will need to obtain a practicing certificate from the jurisdiction of their respective countries."
Opportunities for law graduates will increase dramatically in the run-up to Expo 2020 in matters involving Forex transactions, business set up and legal outsourcing. Apart from that "in house practice" opportunities in sectors including banking, financial and insurance institutions exist, especially in Dubai.
"Law practice to a great extent is a combination of two things - the application of common sense and confidence supported by the relevant law. It is a good opportunity for Indian students living here. The UAE government is very encouraging so one can really experience a rewarding career here," said Ashish Mehta, practising advocate in Dubai.
Vibha Das, a Dubai resident said: "My daughter decided to study law when she was in grade 9. I am happy she has an option here now and this course is approved by Bar Council of India and KHDA."
