Abu Dhabi — Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and chairman of the council of trustees of Khalifa Award for Education, will honour winners of the eighth round of the award at the Emirates Palace Hotel on April 14.

The 2014-2015 round was launched under the theme ‘Distinguish Yourself, You Deserve Honour’.

At a Press conference to announce winners, Amal Al Afifi, the Award’s Secretary General, said 35 out of 500 applicants (304 from the UAE and 196 from the Arab World) had won in the 11 categories.

She explained that of the 35 winners, 26 are from the UAE.

Al Afifi announced that Juma Al Majid, Chairman, Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage, was named Educational Personality of the Year in recognition of his great educational and cultural achievements. An active member of many Arab and international cultural foundations including the Arab Thought Foundation (ATF) in Beirut, and Advisory Committee of Centre for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University, Al Majid has established a number of schools, colleges and charities.

The award aims to promote the field of educational in the UAE and the Arab world through encouraging and motivating creative and outstanding individuals in the field. This could be achieved through:

> Highlighting and supporting the status of those working in all educational fields.

> Contributing in providing a modern and developed educational environment that encourages innovation and excellence.

> Stimulating the UAE citizens to aspire for the teaching profession.

> Encouraging talented educators to design and apply educational projects and programmes.

>Honouring and appreciating those working in the field of educating people with special needs.

> Enriching the Emirati educational field with Gulf, Arab and international educational experiments in the areas of curriculum, research, educational projects, new media, sustainable environment and serving society.

> Focusing on modern technologies and using them as developed programmes in the UAE educational process.

> Focusing on good childhood behaviours, teachings and growth.

> Strengthening the linguistic identity of the UAE by adopting the Arabic language as the official language.

> Contributing in modernising the Arabic language curriculum in public and higher education in the UAE.
