Khalifa University partners with Georgia Tech

According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed here on Monday, the two institutes agreed to explore areas in which Georgia Tech could provide short-and long-term assistance to KUSTAR’s faculty and administrative needs, as well as encourage exchange experiences for its students and faculty staff.

Georgia Tech is one of the world’s premier research universities. It is ranked seventh among top public universities in the US and the eighth best engineering and information technology university in the world. It is also the largest producer of women engineers, according to the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).

The agreement, which will run for five years, will cover bilateral exchange of information and experience in education and research, and will explore opportunities for submitting proposals for joint projects including integrating content for course material, joint collaborative research projects between faculty and/or research groups, and world class lectures or seminars provided by either party.

“Partnerships such as this (will) allow us to enhance the technological, social and cultural relations of both countries ... and provide exciting new educational opportunities for the students of (both) institutions,” said Prof Tod Laursen, President of KUSTAR. “This relationship provides a great stimulus to our teaching and research efforts aimed at cultivation of a new generation of technically advanced students in the UAE,”

Noting that such alliance provides an avenue for Georgia Tech to leverage its expertise on an international platform, Prof Don Giddens, dean of Engineering at Georgia Tech, said, “This partnership, in both research and developing new educational programmes, gives our faculty the opportunity to operate in a global context while helping our students, and the students of KUSTAR, prepare to thrive in a global economy.”
