Promising to start new education programmes to make students and parents happier in 2015-2016, the head of Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) Dr Abdulla Al Karam welcomed students to a new academic year that began on Sunday for majority of schools.
"This year, to continue our 'student experience' and keep the conversation with students going, we'll be starting a number of new programmes designed to make students happier, inside and outside the classroom," the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General wrote in a letter addressing all students.
Speaking about a new KHDA Family Home portal, Dr Karam said parents "will have more conversations with KHDA about happiness and wellbeing, and guide us on our shared goal to improve education in Dubai."
Dr Karam also introduced Living Arabic, a new programme organised by teachers in Dubai, for teachers in Dubai. Hosted by schools on selected Saturdays throughout the year, Living Arabic will share the best of what language teachers are doing to inspire the love of Arabic in their students, and help them deliver lessons that harmonise with how students want to learn.
"This year we'll be introducing the UAE National Agenda Parameter, an initiative for schools to measure and monitor their individual progress towards achieving the National Agenda targets," he wrote highlighting a few of the things that schools will have to incorporate in the coming days. The National Agenda Parameter will see schools participate in external benchmarking exams annually, and enable them to use the results data to improve the quality of their curricula.
