Microsoft to train teachers, students in UAE

Ministry, IT giant sign MoU on smart learning

Education authorities in the UAE have signed a new agreement with tech giant Microsoft to strengthen the Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Programme.

As part of the agreement, signed between Microsoft Gulf and the UAE Ministry of Education, school teachers will receive training and new qualifications.

A total of 25 schools will be covered over the next one year through assistance and training for school leaders, teachers and students as well. The technical teams will also receive Microsoft’s assistance in developing customised applications for teachers and students that aid the learning process. There will also be workshops organised for 1,420 teachers to be trained on the latest innovations in education through the use of technology. As part of a ‘Pioneer Programme’, a group of 50 teachers will receive special training in smart learning and the effective use of information and communication technology in the classroom.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) also provides the opportunity to more than 400 teachers to join the global professional learning community through the Microsoft programme for creative schools. This programme serves to help and guide the teacher to acquire modern technology skills through global certificates in the field of smart learning recognised by Unesco.

In addition, it will provide the latest sources that help to improve performance and educational practices of school leaders through specialised workshops and provide the opportunity to communicate and share knowledge with various international schools are part of the global network of Microsoft Corporation.

Our collaboration with Microsoft will result in a highly supported and enriched learning experience in classrooms across the UAE,” said Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Programme director-general Mohammed Gheyath.

Prior to the signing of the MoU, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft Kevin Turner visited Princess Haya bint Al Hussein School for Girls, accompanied by the Director-General and a number of representatives of the Smart Learning programme to experience the smart learning innovations within the classroom application of learning mechanisms.
