Ministries of education and environment have decided to work together to raise awareness about environmental issues among the school children.
As school students considered crucial in leading the UAE towards a more sustainable future, the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education (MoE) recently.
The MoEW wants to promote environmental awareness among students in Dubai, as part of the National Environmental Education and Awareness Strategy.
Abdel Rahim Mohammed Al Hammadi, Undersecretary, MoEW and Marwan Al Sawaleh, Undersecretary for Academic Affairs, MoE, signed the MoU.
Al Hammadi said the agreement forms part of the ministry's goal of enhancing its coordinated activities with the MoE for increased environmental awareness among students attained through various school level activities, with the view that the young will lead the UAE towards the path of a more sustainable future.
Al Sawaleh said that one of the MoE's top priorities is to impart environmental education among the young people in a bid to establish a sustainable environment for succeeding generations.
The undersecretary also pointed out that this requires concerted efforts and a unified vision among institutions, as well as increased awareness among individuals on the importance of environmental protection.
To achieve the requirements of the national strategy, both parties agreed to establish, develop and launch environmental awareness programmes that support the sustainable objectives set by the schools.
